Hypnosis for Weight Loss

National TV Investigates

Hypnosis for weight loss has been nudging its way into the spotlight, courtesy of shows like Dateline NBC and Good Morning America. These and other stories feature people looking to shed pounds without pill-popping, surgery, or, let's face it, a whole lot of misery. But how do these stories end? Do they lose the weight, or it is a whole lot of hot air?

Hypnosis for Weight Loss: Dateline's Ultimate Diet Challenge.
If you haven't seen this news story yourself, chances are you've heard of it, Dateline's Ultimate Diet Challenge. During this challenge, six people from the same graduating class pursued six very different weight-loss plans, seeking to drop some pounds before their 25th high school reunion.

One of those people was a man named Marc. In my opinion, he was the lucky one, because he was selected to try hypnosis for weight loss, courtesy of Dateline NBC.

His five former classmates tried other methods, including: Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, the Atkins diet, Extreme exercise, and the Jorge Cruise weight-loss program.

Marc consulted a hypnotherapist in Boston, where he received hypnotic suggestions on healthy eating and lifestyle. Marc was not only able to drop his unwanted pounds, he also seemed to accomplish this with a much lower "misery index" than those who tried other methods. (For those of us who've tried to lose weight, I'm sure I don't need to explain what misery index means.)

Oddly enough, after Marc had such amazing success with hypnosis to lose weight, his wife jumped on the bandwagon, trying hypnosis to stop smoking. And yup, you guessed it, she kicked the smoking habit.

Hypnosis for Weight Loss Featured on Good Morning America.
In related news, Good Morning America ran a segment that discussed Hypnosis Can Help Shed Weight Without Pill Popping. In this story, a woman named Judy lost 95 pounds with hypnosis even though she'd struggled with weight her whole life.

In this story, a woman named Judy lost 95 pounds with hypnosis even though she'd struggled with weight her whole life. When she started the hypnosis plan, she weighed 224 pounds. Through hypnosis, she was able to change her behavior, both in what she ate and in going to the gym. Three years later, she was still maintaining a new leaner weight of 129.

In short, both of these stories concluded that, for people looking to shed some pounds, hypnosis is a valid option.

Weight Loss Success Outside TV and Internet Stories
Even though these are terrific, positive stories, I think it's important to remember that even with hypnosis, change doesn't happen overnight. If you read both of the stories closely, you'll notice that none of the people featured in them went to a one-time "hypnotic event" and dropped all their weight instantly.

Rather, they underwent hypnosis over several sessions and adapted healthier habits all-around. To me, this is a positive thing, because this type of change is healthier and longer-lasting.
